Over the last 20 years he has traveled to Asia as a consultant and captured images for pleasure and profit. He was influenced by his uncle, who was a commercial photographer in California. Over the early years of his marriage, he and his wife shot many weddings and portraits with his medium format Hassleblad, Calumet 4x5 and Nikon SLR equipment, hand processing B&W in a garage darkroom. He started his own advertising and industrial videography agency in the 1970s. In the 1980s he and his wife felt a call to missions and lived in India, Egypt and Kenya from 1984-1995 doing media consulting and production. He initially learned photography on a Minolta x700 with off brand lenses. Photography has always been an ancillary skill to writing. His degree was in communications with a focus on journalism. He worked in a local newspaper for several years before picking up experience as a staff writer for a public relations department. While in seminary he used his writing and photography skills to freelance for his state denomination magazine. For the past three years he has worked as a writer and photographer recording stories from all over the Pacific Rim. Since moving to Southeast Asia TK switched over to digital photography. He has used a Sony Cyber Shot 717 and is currently shooting with a Canon Power Shot S2 IS. TK is primarily a story teller, and loves the stories he sees written on the faces of the people he meets as he travels. You’ll notice most of his pictures are close up portraits of people.

Old Monk Myanmar (GD)

OldMonk
Originally uploaded by media_sage.
GD was still in high school when he began learning about photography and the darkroom from his uncle. When he was 8 years old he and his family escaped and declared themselves political refugees. Through God's grace, a minister's family and church sponsored their family to emigrate to the USA. SS received his boost in creativity from a boxed set of 64-color crayons during his first Christmas in the USA. For 2 years in the refugee camp all he had to play with was burnt charcoal. A new box of full color crayons was more than he could imagine. From then on, SS knew that whatever he was to pursue in life had to be about art. It was through the influence of the minister's family that sponsored his family to the USA that he first learned of Christ. A few years later, he came to know JC intimately through a community VBS. During high school and college, SS came to understand that his creative gifts were to be used for God's purposes and not just to make a living. SS received a Fine Arts degree from a US university. After graduation, he freelanced working with photography and print media for both secular and ministry organizations. He has lived in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, England and the USA. Photography helped pay his way to overseas travel during university, and was followed by several years as a professional travel photographer working on assignment for a variety of international publishers, airlines, and hotel chains. Recognizing that there needs to be more to life than money and achievement, he finished his second career in the US west-coast software industry, and now spends his time working for a non-profit foundation in Asia, as well as pursuing his passion for photography. We live in an extraordinarily beautiful and colorful world, filled with diverse and unique people, and DT endeavors to make his photography reflect this.

Myanmar Inle Lake Fishermen (DT)

Myanmar Burma Inle Lake Fishermen 003
Originally uploaded by media_sage.
The Intha "leg-fishermen" of Lake Inle, Myanmar, use conical bamboo fishing nets to catch fish in the clear shallows of this fresh water lake.
